Mustin is perhaps best known for his role as Gus the Fireman in the TV series "Leave It to Beaver" from 1957 to 1963. He also appeared in other popular TV shows such as "The Andy Griffith Show", "Dr. Kildare", "Perry Mason", "The Dick Van Dyke Show", and "All in the Family".

Before becoming an actor, Mustin worked as a hotel clerk, a grocer, and a stockbroker. He didn't start his acting career until he was in his 60s, often playing elderly but lovable characters.
